Custom painted TOMS shoes and sunglasses!

Here are a final images of the painted TOMS shoes and sunglasses, created for the unique 'Art of Giving' tour event from TOMS. This show was held at the Whitespace Gallery, Edinburgh in January, and saw 20 artists from around Scotland taking part.

The shoes and sunglasses were part of a silent auction raising money for Artlink, the Edinburgh based charity.

I'm pleased to say they have now gone to a wonderful new home where I have no doubt they will be treasured and enjoyed for many years :)

For me this completes the journey I have been on with this project absolutely perfectly!

the TOMS 'Art of Giving' - Edinburgh Exhibition

In November last year, I was asked to take part in the TOMS shoes Art of Giving event.

20 artists are taking part in this unique Edinburgh show, so it was an absolute pleasure to be asked to be involved. I was supplied with a pair of TOMS plain canvas shoes and sunglasses, and asked to paint them with an interpretation of what giving means.

All the shoes created by the artists are available for purchase via a silent auction which will run from 18th - 25th Jan, raising money for the TOMS charity.

I have also created a painting to tie in with the event (and the shoes!) which will be exhibited alongside the TOMS shoes and sunglasses. The painting will be available for purchase by contacting myself directly. I will of course post images on my website for those unable to attend the exhibition.

The Art of Giving tour started in Canada last year, before moving onto Dublin, Liverpool, and now Edinburgh.

To confirm you want to attend the Preview Evening, RSVP to; artedinburgh@toms.com
You can mention my name if you want.

Complimentary drinks are provided all evening with entertainment from the Foo Birds!

For every pair purchased, TOMS will give a new pair of shoes to a child in need, One for One.

"My Generation" painting raises £5,501 for the Mo Farah Foundation!

I recently donated one of my paintings to the Mo Farah Foundation, which subsequently saw the painting raise an impressive £5,501 for the charity.

On the 1st September, The Mo Farah Foundation held its ‘Night of Champions’ charity event at the Grosvenor House Hotel, London. The event was attended by Olympic greats such as Sir Steve Redgrave, Usain Bolt and a host of British Olympic stars, including Mo Farah himself.

The painting “My Generation – Inspired” was part of the charity auction that took place on the night and gained a lot of interest from enthusiastic bidders.

The Mo Farah Foundation works to help save lives and support children affected by the worst drought to hit Somalia, Kenya and Ethiopia in over 60 years, by distributing food and supplying water and sanitary facilities.

I was over the moon when I found out how much the painting had raised for such an important foundation.
I created the painting after the Olympics finished on 12th August. Using the London 2012 Olympic tagline ‘Inspire a Generation’, my aim was to create a piece to celebrate the success of Team GB and the positive effect the Olympics has had, and will have on children watching the various sporting events.

I felt the painting was a really strong image. I wanted to be able to use it to its full potential, and by raising over £5500 for a great cause, it seems to have done just that! :)

Painting a hurdle in the My Generation piece seemed the perfect way to represent a metaphorical ‘hurdle’ we must all overcome to reach our goals.

The painting is capped off by a child draped in the Union Jack flag, a familiar site whenever a medal was achieved by Olympic heroes such as Sir Chris Hoy and Andy Murray, and which became a symbol for success during the games.

Visit www.mofarahfoundation.org.uk for more information on the charity.

Inspire a Generation - TeamGB and the 2012 Olympic Games

The London 2012 Olympic Games was a huge success, not only for the achievements of the TeamGB athletes, but for the positive impact the Games had on the public overall.

In this painting titled "My Generation - Inspired", I wanted to focus on the positive impact the Games will surely have on children over the coming years.

I wanted to portray in particular the diverse disciplines, together with a metaphorical 'hurdle' and the iconic Union Jack as a mark of achievement, as we saw with athletes draping themselves with the flag on numerous occasions. You may also notice some significant numbers on the back of the shirts :)
